Scouting For Champ Spawns

There are many champ altars. When you go out to check, you are bound to find one of them currently up, recently gone down, or someone waiting for one to be up. This all aids in scouting out champs. There are also ways to ease scouting out a Champ Spawn:

  • Form a group of players, and split up the work.
  • Keep track of what champs have gone down recently, so you know what not to check.
    • Keep an eye out for deaths by the champ spawn Champions, or monsters you know to be at champs.

Ill-Advised

Asking in World Chat: Are there any champ spawns up?
This starts arguments, and other unpleasant conversation in world chat. If you are constantly seen doing that, people will note this, and be more inclined to say No during a vote. Also, this question, frequently asked by many players, is rarely accompanied with a Please or Thank You.

Alternative

Asking in World Chat: Would anyone mind telling me what champs went down recently? Thanks!
Players will be more inclined to share this information, as it isn't a free hand out, and you'd still have to check the remaining champs. This will help you know what not to check, and politeness will more likely get you information. Don't abuse this too much. The best way to find out this information is to form a network of Champers.

Being observant about details is important if you want to champ regularly.

Being friendly and having a group you regularly champ with will keep you steadily champing.

Forming A Network

The best way to champ is to have a group of trusted people. Networking is important, especially if you aren't part of a guild. This is a great way to find out champ related information. If you are a honest, helpful, and polite player, you'll find yourself champing all day long.

  • Put yourself out there, search for champs. People will notice you actively checking champs.
    • If you are voted into a champ spawn, be sure to say Thank you!
    • If you find someone waiting around a champ alter, stay and chat with them, they may have information.
    • If you get denied at a champ spawn, say Good Luck! and keep looking. Don't complain in World Chat.
    • If you get denied when the champion is out, stick around and help heal pets. Converse with people. It is not good practice to ask to be voted in when the Champion is out. Many people find it very uncouth.
  • Stay and chat with people after a champ spawn.
    • People will potentially share information on champs that could be up, or were up recently
    • Split up scouting out a new champ with those that are there.
  • Be helpful and share what you know, what went down recently, what could be up. People will start remembering.
  • PM people you liked, who frequently champ, about champs when they are up. They'll likely return the favor.

Eventually you'll find yourself getting PMs about champs that are currently up. You'll be able to ask your network about champ times, which will aid in what you should and shouldn't check.

Champ Spawn Etiquette

These are not shard rules. These are basic guidelines to prevent making enemies in the champing world:

  • Hiding or hiding in the trees of a druid and popping up to kill the Champion
People will get really annoyed if after all 4 tiers of you not doing anything, you whip out all 5 pets and slaughter the champion.
  • Using Enchanted Grove on the altar, blocking the view of the candle count
  • Excessive use of pets, especially Imprisoned Pets and Bios, on weak Champs
Barracoon Champ, Doom Champ, Fire Champ are fairly weak and go down fast, using more than 2 imps can and will prevent other players a chance at getting a powerscroll drop.
  • Saying No at a Champ Spawn that you arrived at because of an announcement on world chat. There are caveats:
The Champ Spawn is simply too flooded to accommodate more players
The Champ Spawn was already flooded at the time of announcement
  • Announcing a Champ Spawn on world chat that is almost into the 3rd tier
This is highly annoying if there are already enough players to finish the champ spawn.
You'll get an overflow of players, all trying to get voted in. This causes a great deal of lag.
  • Announcing a Champ Spawn that is already overrun with players
  • Sitting there with pets in All Guard Mode
Saying All Attack will be more efficient than waiting for something to target you.
  • Rushing to loot the Champion's corpse if you were voted into the spawn.

These actions will generally result in you being denied at further champ spawns. People don't like to miss out on powerscrolls, and will remember those who could have aided in preventing them a chance.
