Our town is flooded

Post by Ceara »

Luckily, where we live is OK because our house is on higher ground than most. We only had a bit of water in the basement, which a pump takes away. But others weren't so lucky. I couldn't believe the amount of water damage I saw today. It's just unreal.

There are three fresh water rivers in the Quebec peninsula, plus the St Lawrence River bay, which is quite large. Where the rivers flow from is high elevation in ancient mountains down to the coast, where we are located. All three rivers are flooded, and bridges are weakening. And it's still raining!

So there were a couple hundred people that had to be evacuated from their homes as water entered, only a short time before Christmas. All the families who have now lost Christmas altogether... it's sad.

So say a little prayer for these people, if you can.

Thanks.

I did not take these pics. Someone I know locally photographed many locations and I nabbed a couple from her facebook album to share.

Yeah, it is quite tragic when mother nature unveils her wrath... stay warm and prayers go to your town mon ami! Shouldn't the St. Lawrence be frozen by now.......?

Thanks everyone!

My house and family escaped with relative ease. We were very fortunate.

The family that owns the little store across the river is a total loss. It's a shame too because that place was always hopping every summer and fall, for the fishermen and hunters. One could always get a good tale in there.

But that family suffered a double loss. Not only is the store gone, but their house as well. I heard from a friend yesterday that the cement floor in their basement split in two and each part raised 3 feet. Yikes!

But yeah, this is very odd weather. The grass is green and the ground is squishy like a sponge. All we can hope now is we don't get a severe freeze. Most likely we will have a white Christmas though. :D

Here's a compilation video someone made. Shows damage from all around the coast.

I think there's going to be a huge beach bonfire next summer! lol

I am so sorry to see that happening to those people though I am truly glad that you guys are okay. These are the times when you see the true spirit of the human individual as they deal with tragedy and obstacles and overcome them. Also this is where the community always comes together to help each other out. This also puts into perspective about what is really important in life, and breeding failures, hammer camping, rude players, uber tough events, and super rich players at auctions is not it.

Always remember that life throws all of us tests, challenges and obstacles; It is how we deal with them that defines us. Good luck Ceara, i hope you and Moses come out of this unscathed. Soggy, but unscathed.

Thanks Cygnus. It's truly amazing.

Regarding human spirit, it's kind of funny... The Red Cross opened up 3 shelters but none of them were used, because everyone had friends and family to assist. :D
