Pet Taming
Re: Pet Taming
Welcome to the server.
First of all check out the wiki, there is a lot of good information there to get you started including more details on taming here.

The most common pets new players use to fight are mules and cu sidhe. Mules can be tamed from the master of arts champ that spawns in multiple locations and cu sidhe can be tamed in the Twisted Weald. However freshly tamed, both are pretty weak and it takes training and breeding to get strong versions of all pets.
A lot of players have strong mules for sale so you are probably better off just training up your taming and buying one. Make sure to bond it so it does not die on you.

The taming build is very different here than other servers you may have tried. For one thing, it's relatively easy to push your taming and veterinary skills to 120. This makes taming very accessible while you're a new player.
The biggest difference, though, is animal -breeding-. You can breed animals to make stronger animals. It takes a lot of effort to produce "maxed" animals this way, so folks who do turn around and sell the bred children for gold.
Pragmatically, this means there's nothing you can tame which will be a good choice to fight with. You have to either breed them first or buy some that someone else has bred. The typical early-game choices are Mules and Noble Steeds. Mules are immune to poison attacks, are rideable and have backpacks which at max STR can hold an additional 2000 stone of loot. Nobles are rideable and when used in teams of four or five hit for distinctly more damage than a mules do. Both consume a single control slot, so as a new player you can have a total of 5 out at once.
Typical recommendation is: one purchased max mule to ride, four purchased max nobles to attack, and if you're up against a monster that poisons, dismount and let the mule tank for you. These animals will have 1000 - 1100 hp each. Much more than you ever will.

Re: Pet Taming
Cu-Sidhe tend to come later. They consume I think 3 control slots, so as a new player you can only field one at a time. They're rideable, have a bleed attack and like mules they have a backpack. If you dislike the taming play style and just want a mount, Cu-Sidhe are a good choice. If you're comfortable controlling five animals at once, they're not.Yuki wrote: Wed Jul 10, 2024 5:25 pm The most common pets new players use to fight are mules and cu sidhe.
