UOEX on Windows 7

I downloaded the beta of Windows 7 this morning and got my activation key as well. I loaded UO onto it and it all works very well. Windows 7 feels alot quicker on my laptop than Vista does. I think Microsoft may be headed in the right direction this time.



EDIT - Oh yea I have the basic window theme on because the Razor information at the top of the window won't show if the AERO theme is on for some reason. So I have it set to shut the theme off when I run Razor and UO.

Still not keen on that taskbar.... can you change it to have the detail not just the symbols off what you have open?

You can change the taskbar in a lot of ways. You can see in the screenshot below that you can have the detail as well.



You can also click to have small icons so the taskbar will be smaller. With the detail showing as well the taskbar will look more like what people are used to.



The launchers double as launcher and application tab. When you are using an application it uses the same spot as it's launcher if you have the launcher pinned to the taskbar. When you close the app then it goes back to being a launcher.

I've been debating on getting this. I started the d/l of it after reading this thread. Needed to move some stuff to my storage anyways so I will install this to my play computer after doing that. If I like it I'll buy it when it comes out and put it on my work computer on the other desk. At least this way I don't make the mistake I made with vista.

this is still vista, just a slightly modified taskbar and minor other tweaks, i strongly suggest against spending money on this.

My mistake on vista was not trying it before buying it, even if it was just a upgrade coupon with a computer I bought. I will test this out and see what I think for free. Though thinking about it I instead switch out the drive on the comp so it's simply switching back the drive if I don't like it. Save some time.

Yea Windows 7 is basically Service Pack 2 for Vista except you'll get to spend new OS retail price for it.

I agree about the Mac comment. Linux has had many features of Vista for a long time as well. Here is some fairly current eye candy you can do with your Linux desktop.

I have my windows XP still on the windows classic look with the grey everything, just that it's not the default grey but a more blueish-slategrey. Tried many of these enhancements but they just start getting on my nerves after a few hours.

Thanks to my TechNet subscription I have Windows 7 Ultimate up and running. It's less of a system resource hog than Vista and I can see an obvious performance difference. Go Win 7!

If you use EasyUO remember that it has to be run in XP Compatibility mode to work. If you don't set the compatibility mode you'll wind up clicking the green arrow over and over going "What the..?"

Ubuntu is great and I wish I could use it at work. For now we're a Windows shop so I tend to focus on it.

I tried to get an Ubuntu server up and running for imaging systems but the decision makers said it wasn't secure enough. "But...but...it sits within the network and has no outside connections. It's sole purpose in life is to image hard drives. It even has all of the same lock downs we put on all the other computers and servers." I gave up.
