new to shard

Post by Manticore »

Hi guys,

I'd like to introduce, I am Viktor from Lithuania (Manticore), I have been playing UO on and off for many years now, this game brings me so much nostalgia... even though it's really obsolete in many ways, but hey, I like "retro" games. ;)

Lately I've been craving for some *real* multiplayer experience but my ventures were... of little success. From what I've heard this is the place to fix that. :) Btw, I've been for a little check run in Minoc but I haven't seen a single player soul... is this normal for such hight player count?

Anyway, I like to gather stuff, mine, chop, grow, hunt animals and turn that to something useful (used to grow flowers a lot). Granted there are lots of people who are allready maxed out, the economy is filled with items and stuff... I was wondering, what kind of people are required by the people, what can I do for a living that would be really usefull for some kind of guild that I could join? Mining + alchemy + gardening (+bees?) might be something that comes to mind, but is there still a niche for that? :) Are for example plants themselves a valuable good, or their rare/special produce (green thorns anyone?)? Also, is there a demand for cooks and is it of any profit? When Shadowcove was alive it had a really cool food recipe system that I loved but there was no way to turn that to a profit...

Anyway, I'm waiting for info guys, thanks in advance.

Hi there Manticore !

I do not know about the not seeing a single soul but i can tell you that there is people alive on this shard. I guess the timezone might be the problem but still i have no idea how many europeans are playing on the server. I know there is a lot of Americans (including USA-Canada < me).

Anyway, you may find something for your liking on this shard as there are a lot of customisable items/quests and stuff. If you want to join a guild for a starter you could always join ILV (Immortal Lords of Virtue). We are a cool bunch trying to tag along doing plenty of co-op stuff. As for myself i do like to gather stuff as well so i could prep you up a bit on that as well.

So if you want to join or simply have a look you can [PM Zodiac (guild master) or [PM Lexus (a real nice player) as they may be on most of the time. You can always [PM me as well (Blathzar) but since i'm currently at work (break time) i won't be home before another 6hour approx.

Well i hope you get to find what your looking for on Excelsior and if it's not with ILV may it be with some guild you may like.

Enjoy ! :)

Thanks! I'll take on the offer and PM some of you/your guild soon, but what I would like to know more about is the state of the market and economy as far as player economy is concerned. Like I said before, how popular/profitable is gardening, alchemy, cooking and the like? I am the kind of person who doesn't like hard dungeon difficulties, so I will focus mostly on crafting. What is demanded in general among the players that can be crafted and not looted?

I actually have not a good idea of these. Zodiac or Jace may have a better view on these things if you want to ask them they will have a better chance at answering these questions.

Also you can read trough the wiki to get infos on how things work around crafting and stuff.

By the way... I downloaded and installed the package that was given on the starting page and when I login it says my client is three versions too old... o_O When I try to patch it, the patcher freezes. Also, to add to the confusion I went to the trading fair location, then left for Minoc moongate and... I now always crash when I try to start the game itself... o_O Everything loads, I authorise and such but... I just can't do anything else. Professional help is needed here. :)

This is really odd. I've never had any problem with anything about the shard so far... I guess you should try to make a new post with that question so everyone who can help see that there's help needed. I'm not really good fixing stuff up. Sorry.

There is always room to find something to sell.
Kegs are always good, even if the competition is high.

Bees are pretty decent money, which in turn requires a constant supply for kegs. Certain plants are also needed, but i would think less demand since once you have some, they never decay.

Not much of a market for cooking goods, but if you like lumber jacking and mining, you will always find someone to buy your boards and ingots. Green thorns do sell well, as do the orange petals.
