Co Owners Beware

Post by Acacia »

I co own a house and was about to put out a chest where i could fill items with free things for guild members that are newer
but i happened to try and secure a chest and it didn't secure.
not that there's a problem with co owners not able to secure containers, but my point was, there's no gump or message saying
"your container cannot be secured here"

if i would have had stuff in it and left it, anyone could have taken the whole thing had it been found
or it could have disappeared if gone unnoticed

Co owners are not allowed to secure anything that s why you do not get a gump. This is something that is not a bug but by design. You can lock anything you want down but only the owner of the house can secure chest's and containers... if you try to secure it it wont even stay locked down becuase you do not have that permission to do so... its inharent that you don't as a Co-Owner.

but a simple message saying you don't have permission to do that would be nice.
at least, it wasn't inherent to me, because i was unaware

Sounds like a great idea to have a warning about that. It has the potential for causing serious loss and aggravation to players over something silly and not well understood. Very few players know all the ins and outs of co-ownership. It was always kind of confusing, and I've never seen a one-stop definitive guide to it anywhere. The lockdown gump staff made for placing items in player housing was a great upgrade and I think this falls right in line with that. It might not come up very often but it's bound to cost someone big eventually if not changed.

Then it would be worth the 100 ED plus 10 ED per item up to the max of 200 ED to get the chest back.

That's very nice, Lestat, though I still hope the functionality is changed. We all know not everyone is going to read everything written about every subject on the wiki or forum. And whatever the value is of items lost to something like this, and whether or not they're recovered, the end result of finding this quirk the very hard way can only be negative.

you are right Unbeliever... but we can't expect +Coli to start editing script for something that is at the moment Minor compared to all of the other Scripting that he has been requested to do for the New areas as well as other core modifications to make the server more stable ... in the mean time ... I noticed that we already have a section listed in the Command Area of the Wiki ...

Maybe this is something that can be reworded or maybe for those that are part of the Young Players support group ( those player's that assist the youth center and such ) can make a book that is a good "general" instruction or how to that we can include as part of a welcome package to new players ...

Below for reference:

Lestat

For these to work you must be standing in a house you own (or co-own, or are friended to, for some).

I wish to lock this down (Co-Owner+) - Say this to 'Lock Down' an item, preventing it from decaying or people from taking it

I wish to secure this (Owner) - Same as above but works better with containers, allows you to set the 'Security' (Owner, Co-Owners, Friends, Anyone) on a container

I wish to release this (Co-Owner+) - Say this to release an item that is Locked Down, only the Owner can release Secured containers

I wish to place a trash barrel (Co-Owner+) - Creates a trash barrel at your feet, which has a 3-minute timer on when inserted items are deleted

I wish to place a strongbox (Co-Owner) - Creates a strongbox at your feet, which only can be accessed by the person who's name is on it

Remove thyself (Friend+) - Ejects the target from the house

I ban thee (Friend+) - Puts the target on the house's Ban List, preventing them from entering the house until they are removed

Other Player housing interaction need to know.

Bees... Owners only can tend bees and have them make wax/honey Friends / co owners can be set and allowed to tend them but they will not produce any resources and cannot be harvested by friends/co-owners.
