Alpharius Reviews the Shard

Post by Alpharius »

Franklin's Pirate Bar.

At first glance, Franklin's doesn't seem to be much. With very little seating and little floor space, Franklin's is obviously not meant to be your average nightlife hotspot. However, it boasts a central location with a lot of through traffic as well as a decent drink selection. The bartender, the eponymous Franklin, is always present and whilst he's not the greatest conversationalist, his service is top notch. Franklin's is definitely not the spot for the bar connoisseur but for those looking for a a regular watering hole that caters to the average Joe, Franklin's is worth checking out.

The Vesper Mint & Pub

On the surface, the Vesper Mint appears to be gimmicky and pretentious. While most would agree, parking a bar on a bank's grounds seems to be an invitation to trouble, here it seems to work. There is plenty of seating, so you can definitely entertain a larger party, which is a definite bonus. A large selection of games also means that you won't be bored. Combine all that with a larger than average staff count and you've got a place that shines when it comes to customer service. The bar itself seems to be decently decorated, with special thought given to the bar area itself. While it won't be on the cover of any magazines, it does convey a welcoming atmosphere. One thing to note, the grass and dirt floor is an absolute stroke of genius, you'll never have to worry about spilled drinks here. The Vesper Mint is probably an acquired taste for the seasoned bar veteran, but it's worth the price of admission.

The Headless Hideout.

One thing that immediately becomes clear upon entering this place is that it seems to be extremely aptly named. This place offers little to the seasoned hunter. Sure, it might be good for the new monster hunter, but I'd advise anyone else not to bother. The layout is extremely convoluted, it's almost like they want people to get lost inside. The decor is horrid. Spiderwebs and mushrooms everywhere, the headless hideout could benefit from a thorough cleaning and a few well placed flower pots, not to mention the torches. I mean, really? Torches? Torches are so last year. A well placed lamp post would go far in brightening the mood here in the Headless Hideout. If you've got a head on your shoulders, you'd do well to steer clear of the Headless Hideout.

Literally laughed out loud for once instead of just typing it. I've noticed in game Alpharious is clever and quick witted, always good for a good chuckle but do you also happen to write reviews for a living? If not you should consider a side gig for a spoof paper, good stuff. Cheers

More reviews please.

The Paladin's Stopover in Luna:

If there were an award given for pretension, the Paladin's Stopover would surely be a top contender. From the decor to the layout, it attempts to give the impression that, "They're better than you and you know it." Unfortunately for the Paladin's Stopover, some expense has been spared whilst attempting to give the impression that no expense has been spared. It all adds up to a place that just can't quite measure up to the grandiose facade it attempts to present. The decor can be measured up with a single word, "White." Someone should've told the proprietor that white after labor day is a major faux pas as well as a nightmare to keep clean. One of those aforementioned expenses that has been spared seems to be a decent cleaning staff. The white entryway carpeting would do well with the loving caress of a vacuum cleaner. If you're looking for a decent place to stay that's within your budget and want bang for your buck, you should pass over the stopover.

Skeleton Swill in Umbra:

I'm not even sure where to begin with this place. Everything about it seems to be designed to ward off the typical restaurant goer and barfly. For starters the bar has exactly zero stools. Most people would agree that seating is one of the more necessary trappings of a successful establishment. Unfortunately for Skeleton Swill, they seem to have missed this particular memo. The main seating area, which is behind the bar, is in a tent of all things. A tent! One should probably avoid this place on a particularly windy day lest their meal make it's way to their lap. The fare is standard and boring. One would think that it's proximity to the famed Dungeon Doom would at least provide some more exotic vittles, however it is all standard pub fare. I can get a loaf of bread at any bakery, why travel this far for the same? The decor is next to nonexistent, everything is done in a somber dark gray. If any place could use a splash of color, it's the Skeleton Swill. If you're looking for a place that's more than cheap pub food and flat ale, you'd do well to find your fill somewhere other than Skeleton Swill.
