Hi, New Here

Post by Ataxsus »

Hey guys, nothing too important I just wanted to say Hello.

UO shards have a tendency to be pretty tight-knit communities, and I thought it well mannered that I/we introduce ourselves.

Myself, a few friends, girlfriends and (maybe) a couple of brothers (probably anywhere from 8-14) suddenly felt extremely nostalgic for the "good old days of UO". We've played on a number of shards (most prominently on Neverlands, prior to its multiple deaths/rebirths and during its "prime").

I suppose I have two main questions.

-As Australians, how bad is the lag situation with this shard? In my experience its always subpar (but were used to that :)).

-We typically like to work as a tight group ourselves and always enjoyed Treasure Hunting/ Dungeon Crawling and Guild vs Guild wars, in that order. As I understand it pvp is fairly restricted on this shard (which is fine :), so is there any friendly advice people can offer us, particularly with the first two goals in mind?

Thanks in advance! I Look forward to seeing you ingame!

I play regularly with a guy from Austrailia and he seems to do pretty alright. No more complaints of lag from him than anyone else. As for dungeon crawling there are plenty here. All of the normal UO dungeons are spawned, some are upgraded spawns and one is downgraded. The dungeons can provide you with a challenge for a while here. Umbris camp and S'gail are two of our more difficult area that are completely custom. I think you guys will have a lot of fun here. Welcome to Excelcior

welcome and g'day m8 hehehehehe just having some fun. love the saying.

there are some people here who are from Australia, Germany, Russia, Italy, UK, America, and plenty more. plenty of customization. especially when it comes to gear. after awhile you'll find out you can level a weapon, and then turn it into something else. you can customize your house, and even have basements for a price.

here's a link to some movies some players put together for a video event, which is in Feb. the top prize is 400 eds, which is equal to 40 euros. here's a link http://www.uoex.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=4704

here's some advice, and it will take you a long time to do, but what to do while macroing anyways....Read the Wiki.
it's packed full of information you'll need. like what to tame at what level.

i hope you enjoy your time here.

on a side note: Read the Codex of rules.

Welcome Ataxsus.
I'm from Sydney and am also new.
Lag is no problem as your gameplay tends to adjust. The only time I notice is with a pang of jealousy as someone runs past sounding like a drum machine rather than my usual dripping tap sound.
I know of two others who are in our timezone, so feel free to friend me and send a PM [c to say hi.

Thanks for the welcomes and advice guys =)

I had a look through codex/wiki and some of the other welcome threads. Picked up lots of useful info.

I might just take you up on the Birko ;) More the merrier, right?

There is a lot of customization on this shard, has a pretty decent learning curve hah.

Thanks again! We'll see you in game!

Just my 2cp for having recently started (1w 1d).

Perhaps the single greatest change is the no skill limit, while this seems simple, innocuous, the subtlety of this is very huge.

Were I have found the subtlety the most is in how one can perceive one as being GOD like with all skills caped at 100 or 120 or wherever.

Well, I think the powers that be powers have adjusted things to make sure your no GOD.

Having said that, it is clear, you do NOT need to make characters for Trade Skills, Stealing, Treasure Hunting etc.

Be safe and have fun ... oh and by the way,

a) Always Keep your Token Ledger in your bag
b) Train up everything you can in the Training room (will cap at 75)
c) Always use the clean all command and I can not remember what it is I just made it a macro in Razor.
d) misc
[c text will place the text in the general(?) chat you see on screen
[pm Name Text will open a Window, with the text, for sending to a specific player.
[exex is an in game system for making (i believe) it possible for all sellers to present their wares to all buyers. TGhere is a Blue Box you make the deposit into.

Some uoex character with every possible skill maxed to the limit and every possible stat maxed going to OSI.UO or EA.UO were every encounter is tuned to a 700 skill limit.

That is what I was refering to in the subtelty, it is my opinion, that the encounters in uoex are tuned balanced to a high total skill character. I am ok with that. It allows for a one character being able to do all things in the game.

welcome to you all from oceania, and i'm happy that your hear. osi has really erm... dropped the ball, and i have personally found the free shards a better place. you'll notice with all skills gm'd you'll have more fun, and less restrictions.

good luck in the game and if you ever have a question and it's not on the wiki throw me a pm

[pm anarchy

once again good luck :)
