Bows and Crossbows Range/Damage

I don't think bows or crossbows should do any damage at point blank range.... Its kind of ridiculous when u think about it... how do you parry when drawing a string and firing a weapon.. I think when you are at point blank with an enemy you should not be able to fire arrows/bolts...Either that or make a sliding scale of damage where it is small at point blank, increasing to a maximum damage (around half the weapons range) and then lessening at higher range.... Just to add a little more realism to the weapons...

on OSI shards there is an ability called Velocity, it actualy add damage for each tile between the attacker and target.
Maybe staff should lower tha basic damage of all ranged weapons and apply that ability, again, to all ranged weapons. Damage should be as is now at maximum weapon range.

If we're going realistic, then how about we make a point-blank shot from arrows be unblockable and penetrate one's armor almost every time? I mean, it's kind of not realistic for someone to be able to take a hit from a heavy crossbow from 2 feet away and not die.

In that case all weapons should be one shot killers. Fairly certain if someone stabbed me with a dagger I'd Probably die from it. Think the idea is more for bringing some diversity to the game. Not to add realism. Tempt people away from yumis and archery. Though I could be wrong.
If we want realism remove monsters and spells. Maybe add a laundry feature. I have worn my armor the year and a bit I've been playing. Pretty sure it would stink.

Yeah, I definitely agree with that. I just like better reasons given than 'realism' alone xD.

we are not talking about realism here, but something should be done about that everyone (almost) is running around with yumi.
My suggestion wouldnt nerf nor boost damage from ranged, you would just have to put some effort into it - to try keeping maximum (- 2 or 3 tiles?) range to still have max. damage (damage as is atm)

If you nerf yumi's or any bows for that matter people are just going to switch to the new most powerful weapon. No skill cap means everyone already or very quickly will have max skills in all weapons so it won't change anything except giving people something else to complain about.

all weapons should be aprox the same damage so the one would choose something based on abilities, look, ...
For me, I would like to use a crossbow, but with less range and halved damage ... i think ill stay with yumi.

Ok i guess 'realism' wasnt really the right word to use lol.... I just think in terms of fighting with ranged weapons, particularly large bows, they would be extremely cumbersome at point blank... i'd rather use the bow or an arrow in hand to attempt to parry blows... rather than use both hands to load and fire the weapon... And it wouldnt make Yumi's bad... would just mean more micro management (kiting foes etc) and make warriors carry a variety of weapons for faster enemies...

Anything that one-hits you
Reasons to carry variety of weapons:
- Enemies run away: use bow
- Lots of enemies: use melee weapon with area attack
- Enemies too strong: use bow
- Don't want to waste arrows: use melee
Micromanagement:
- Try explosion potions, could be (mega)tons of fun
- Use combinations of mage spells, ninjitsu, bushido, necro spells
It's all already there, just need to look for it.
