Excelsior

1st quest you are supposed kill 50 lich lords and collect 50 essence of the abyss. I'm having a terrible time I step in there a little ways and am just swarmed by heavy hitting monsters. Seems like u may need gear to get the gear. I know u want it to be tough, but wow, so basically how are you tackling it and being successful with it. I really appreciate the help.

When you enter the area with the portals go through the left portal, one with the ghouls and zombies. Run down to the 2nd floor. There is an area that spawns only 2 Lich lords. Much easier to tackle. Or you can always bring pets and sit back while they go to town
