Anotha one lol I got a problem.....

I hope that you will not have my problems.
I was assembling computer for my wife. upgrade from i5-2xxx to Ryzen 3900 Pro.
everything assembled I am installing Win11 but with couple quirks (local account, many elements disabled) ..
works fine, I put there GTX1650 pulled from old intel server (Xeon 5520) , ok, works.
my first windows newer than Win7. I am server guy.

I enabled all bios setting for future linux install and virtual machnes plus gpu passthrough. Hyperthreading, iommu groups ...
Linux installed, nvidia drivers too ... all fine.
Started to install steam games like WH3 .. 3d failing after 5 min. learning curve steep ... nothing.
I run under linux debut - driver is throwing some card communication errors.
Change to even older server ATI 2GB card ... the same.
Fresh install of Win11 ... ooops we have problem install is failing ....

Finally I gave up , perhaps i am too old to learn new tricks ... went to local repair shop and asked to diagnose what is the issue because i do not have elements for swapping.
TaDa! Not I am stupid, but processor damaged.

I send the whole box for repair and they swapped cpu. Works fine. Perhaps my INT is not too low.

I hope I don't run into any issues either I had to go and upgrade that grapichs card though

Not my current PC build, but I like showing this one off because it's such an absolute mess. I had a PC that was overheating when air-cooled - mostly in the summer when the house was warmer. After fiddling with the air flow and fan configuration a while, nothing was helping, so I finally opted to go for water cooling after a friend of mine suggested it - he was into custom loops and kinda walked me through.

Problem was, I bought a big radiator - too big for my case. So... I ended up just making a little frame with castors to make a case for my case that can roll around. The water cooling stuff got attached to the outside of this case and I could use some quick-disconnects in the back if I needed to take the PC outside for dusting, or if I needed to do maintenance on just the water-cooling components.

The result looked like some monstrosity from Serial Experiments: Lain, lol.



There's one hose not connected in that pic - I was missing a connector and had to order one more. I also shortened the tubes a bit after I got everything kinda mapped out, so the end result wasn't quite as bad.

That is so freaking cool bro

Two comments on computer cases:

1. Air cooling is about flow. The air has to flow past the hot components and out of the case. Especially the hard drive because everything else can be fixed with a little money. It's not just about the fans. The vents have to be in the right places and they have to be large enough for the air to flow where it needs to flow. And the case has to be closed where the air should be flowing though instead of in or out or there won't be enough pressure to draw it through the critical locations. Wet your hand and check in front of the vents. If you don't feel the air flowing, it isn't.

2. An enclosed and grounded metal case is a Faraday cage. It will resist EMPs such as a nearby lightning strike. If it's plastic or there's a big showy window in the side of your case, it's not a Faraday cage.
