From the responses I have gotten....it seems just the opposite.

Shower with items? I am talking armor from a polar runic kit...that blows...that won't sell on a vendor for 5k...AS LOOT IS HORRIBLE. I again...will point out mistvale. I simply have to show that to EVERY new person I come across

I get it. It's written down somewhere where they were responsible for reading it...I know. I read it. I'm fine.

Most people don't read. want a fun game they can get into. sheep for tailoring? OMG....

the guy is still there...or quit.

I rest my case.

Nothing wrong with telling new players about Mistvale, you're doing a good service to your fellow players. I know that the original plan was to have a new starting area for players that would more directly show the Mistvale option. However the New facets are taking some time to get ready so they launched the Mistvale early to be a service to players. I don't know if the new starting area is still in the works but I expect it is.

I'm looking forward to crafting getting it's bump after the new facets come out because you're right, they are pretty much useless right now.

I wasn't suggesting that you showered newbies with gifts, just mentioned that aspect because a lot of people do, which in turn hurts the economy.

The particular player wanted to harvest their own wool to make cloth. It wouldn't be my choice but everyone plays the game differently and enjoys different aspects. They were asking on [c where to find sheep. My point was it's not just you and ETA that helps new players.

Anyways, I hope you can continue to find enjoyment in the shard. I have been here 5+ years and still find things I enjoy doing. To me, Ultima is an A+ game and just about the only game I have any interest in playing for any length of time.

Depending on when newbies join the server, most get at least one or two messages of "Hi! Welcome to the shard! To type in general chat, just type [c " Now granted there are times when fewer players are on and/or paying attention to their journal... but during the time that I play, I've noticed very few players joining the shard who weren't welcomed and given that info. But once again, that information can be found on the Wiki page for new players!

First, if you're going to continue on this thread, please refrain from swearing or using abbreviations of swearing (Codex 2a).

"I could not give a rats ass about pricing...I 230 dex and have 10s of millions of gold...the 30k a month to me doesn't matter for CRAP to me...I just see vendors putting up CRAP and wondering why they are not making money and it is because newbs don't get help from anyone but ETA and Ernie...jesus flippin mahoganies...wake up...."

So, players are are putting up things on their vendor(s) that are not being bought and are just burning money from the owner's bank, and that is because new players are not getting help from anyone except ETA and Ernie?

"I HELP NEWBIES. IN FACT....alllllll the time...I do it in my spare time considering I have played ultima for 20 years....been on this shard a year and doing just fine myself...I AM THE LORAX>>>>I SPEAK FOR THE TREES"

Do you sleep? You must have a laptop...Also, thanks for helping people. I like a community full of people who like to help others. Good to know that you are the Lorax, but that's a big statement to say you speak for ALL the trees. Maybe not all trees want to be put in one group or two defined parties like republicans or democrats...maybe there are some independents?

"....AS I STATED BEFORE!!!!!!!! RUNIC sewing kits are so FKN WORTHLESS that if I see a newbie without a decent suit of armor, I make him one for free..."

Thanks for being kind and helpful to those who could benefit from the armor. In most MMOs, you generally have two choices when it comes to acquiring an item. Buy at the market value, or obtain yourself. If neither are worth the time or the gold, then move on. I think this is a pretty easy concept for most. I agree that most uses of a runic at that price will not yield the gold-per-use for each click, but I know many people who first acquire a full crafting suit before spending any uses of any kits. I have a use for crafted "trash" items that I will implement in my facet, but that will take some time as there are plenty of variables to work out. It may not seem like it, but staff has a living document of things that need to be addressed and certain parts of the economy are included.

"I am also not waiting for stupid vendors with MILLLIONS of gold backing them to be taken off...what a waste of space..."

Yeah, I can understand that frustration. People have to keep gold on the NPC as well as update the items on the vendor at a regular interval to keep the NPC there. It can be as simple as taking off one item and putting another cheap item on the NPC to "refresh" the inventory, but that is an upkeep the owner has to maintain and if they do...they are entitled to have that NPC.

"This is not a complaint from the perspective you are looking at it...I like a thriving shard with a good economy....the middle class runs the economy and I see HAVEs and HAVENOTS..meaning lower lower lower class(people with 100k or less to their name) and people like me who have everything that they need and get bored so they help newbies only to find out I AM ONE OF ONLY 2 DARN PEOPLE WHO CARE!!!"

That is quite a major assumption. We have a lot of new players. Being new doesn't mean they are "lower class". It means they are new. There are also players here that have nearly half a billion gold (some with a billion, likely). We have auctions to sink their gold if they so choose to spend it. But, 100 people with a trillion gold would not keep players from acquiring gold that is automatically generated. I appreciate your charity, but I have to speak up and say that many people on this shard help others. They may not speak up, but there are others that help. They may help someone they run across in the world, and talk with each other in world chat. Some offer escorts to places in the world for people who can't solo the area, and don't give them a single gold piece.

Help, assistance, hand-outs and hand-ups occur on this shard without a global chat dialog, all the time.

Am I reading this wrong? Are you saying that ETA and Ernie are the ONLY ones helping newbies? *LOL* Someone please tell me that I'm reading this wrong... please?

retort to that....
Ok stop right there! I take offense to that statement. There are alot of people on this shard, Myself included, that help new players out all the time, so don't make it sound like you've got the market cornered on helping players. My guild was built on that premise and is still doing that to this day. There is a huge difference between teaching someone how to play and giving them things. Giving them things accomplishes nothing and harms the economy. I have been here over 4 years and I have seen my fare share of new players that come in and want things given to them as they feel its their right as then are new, only to have them quit within about a month due to boredom. This game was designed so that people have to work on things over time not become uber in a matter of days. Yes its rough when you start out but this shard has done an excellent job at providing things for new players to help them as they start with the New player donation bins, the training room, New player dungeon with quest and now Mistvale. I believe even when they enter there is a notice that states Read the New Player Guide on the Wiki. I know when I started here I read a lot. It just seems that people don't want to do that anymore and as such are lost. I have had new players say to me that they don't want to read as it will take to long so just tell me. Now most new players are awesome so I don't mean to generalize. But what we as a player base need to do is educate these new players on how to play not give things away.

I want to respond back to Mallam saying that he and Ernie are the only two people that help newbies... but all I can think of saying is "HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA".... honestly. *LOL* Maybe you need to actually talk to other players as equals, Mallam because I can promise you, your wrong in your opinion of the people of this shard. I know many people who have helped new players with not only gold and items to get started but information as well. I honestly feel sorry for you if you have that little respect for your fellow players here.

Hello, I'm not much of a forum posting type but in this instance I couldn't help myself. I'm confused......Mallam, are you sure you're on the right shards forum? This is Excelsior shard.

*sigh*

Mallam, I see you completely ignored my advice regarding how to behave.

Please refrain from outright fibbing. You have not been here for 1 year yet. You've been here nearly a year - about 10.5 months. Inflating your position on this shard doesn't help your cause.

+V has already warned you regarding your language, so of course you'll need to heed that.

But from here out - stop behaving like a troll trying to incite a flame war. If you continue to make these offensive, insulting posts, you will receive jailtime. I don't mind if you want to continue your discussion, feel free - but do so in an appropriate manner from now on.

That being said, I've been here a short time and have received an immense amount of help and guidance (most of the time without even asking), from complete strangers. Furthermore, I personally see uoex veterans guiding newbies every single time without fail anytime I log on, through World Chat, ILV Guild Chat and just while standing around in any major location. I aspire to be as helpful.

P.s. I was told of Mistvale prior to 10 days or so
P.s.s. Mega shout out to all the staff, keep up the amazing job :dance

Hi guys I believe the true purpose of this thread is being ignored has this was suposed to discuss the economy of the shard, I must say during my time here vendors come and go and if there are few noob vendors that doesn't¨mean that the economy is crashing, you can't also assume an economy crash in the midle of summer vacations.
It is completely normal that when you achieve a higher "level" in this shard you find it not apealing to buy items that are not better than yours, but you must understand that there are alot of items being sold behind the vendors wich is actually most part of the items that interest Veteran players or the hunt for decorative items in wich the vendors have a roll.
Runic materials play a good roll in the economy but players must adapt to the balance of money, you can't blame runic prices since the people who buy the runic tools are crafters who sell to the customer wich is a noob therefor prices are fit to the buyer ... (not sure if i made myself clear in this part...)

I see that I should post less harshly.

My post took a wrong turn from the very beginning and I am all to blame for it.

Take it for what it is. Newbies are running around in lmc 2 mana regen 1 regular leather armor(don't make me post pics) and all the while a single relayer is as powerful as their entire stats put together...seemed odd to me...sorry for mentioning

sorry for saying 365. it's only 328.

my sincere apologies.

How would you go about fixing this perceived problem?

Perhaps something constructive from you might be helpful.

Newbie (until 6 months maybe) could farm in some specific dungeon some item drop that would be of veteran interest from deco to weapon to armor therefore their vendors would be something of a bid leal , it could have a sad twist of making them have too much earl income. The specific problem is that this shard has created two sepperate economies and the only possibility is forcing veteran to buy newbie items

Regarding the Mistvale stuff, I know that it isn't up to GMs to handhold new players however maybe if it isn't too difficult to implement, a gump could be added to the game. Like the gump we get when we get vet rewards or something similar. When a player starts the game a gump can pop up saying something like:

Welcome to Excelsior Noobie person! To chat with your fellow players type [c message.
Dont forget to check out the training room, it will help you get started on important fighting skills *add some brief directions to the training room here*
When you feel confidant in your fighting skills be sure to check out the noob dungeon through the portal in the training room and while you are there you should try out the noobie rat quest for more info check out the link *link to wiki rat quest page*

And when the player reaches 21 day another gump can pop up telling the player that they are now eligible to do the Mistvale quests and have a link directing them to the Mistvale wiki page.

I don't have a clue how difficult that would be to add, however its the only way I can think of that will guarantee that all players have been informed of these things.

However, to say that only one person is telling new players about Mistvale is an outright lie... sorry its true. Every day since I started 2 months ago all I see in world and guild chat is Mistvale this and Mistvale that, you have no choice but to learn about it. If someone does NOT know about it then it is their own fault because they were either afk so much that they totally missed it being said in chat or they have chat turned off completely. You can't just come in here and rant about some problem you see with the server without offering any sort of solution to the problem.
