March 31st is World Backup Day.
We now have a command [mybackups which you can use to backup the contents of your bank box. This is just a fun menu without any functionality, just to raise backup awareness
Some guidelines for backups:
Rule of 3-2-1:
Have at least 3 copies of your data (working set + two backups)
Have them on at least 2 different mediums (Magnetic HDD + Flash drive, more is better: optical drive like a DVD, cloud storage...)
Have at least 1 copy in a different location (possibly far away, at least 10 miles).
Cold storage / offline backup:
In all systems can get hacked, or a very intense virus/ransomware can affect all systems at once. So be sure to have at least one copy that is physically disconnected and would require you to manually/physically connect the storage media to access it.
Make backups periodically. If you're doing it manually, you can schedule it monthly, at the same time you pay your bills or some other thing that always happens every month.
Check whether the backups are actually working. Maybe you're using a program to back it up, it might not copy the data completely or just result in some error that doesn't get displayed. In case you actually have to use it, half of it could be missing, or could be very outdated.
In case you have to switch to a backup, label that storage medium with the date and a note that you started to use it as your primary dataset. And when you get your computer back from the shop, synchronize all the changes, then remove that label or add another label saying "no longer using as primary dataset as of [date]".
This last one I figured out back in January 2020 when my main computer crashed, (I had very outdated backups, but managed to partially transfer some of the data out)... I started working from different copies, and after I got my computer in working order it took a while for me to figure out what is the actual most recent copy of a bunch of files.

I make backup my bank, and now my bank empty.
Restored from backup. It looks like everything has been restored

Re: World Backup Day
This was a great reminder to make backup of all my work! its been a few months and we never know
On a side note: I noticed that my stack of 10 000 EDS was missing from a container next to two stacks of 30 mithril ingots that also vanished. Do you think you can look it up and restore those?
Thanks for the reminder!

Re: World Backup Day
I played around with this and when I made a backup, everything in my bank box disappeared. I was able to restore everything from the backup so I got it all back. Should that happen? Should my stuff disappear all together when it's backed up?

Re: World Backup Day
I logged in this morning and my bankbox is totally empty. I tried the [mybackup thing and it won't work. Does anyone know how to fix this?

I just did that and it only backed up my empty bank.
Re: World Backup Day
Hmmm....
My bank box is also empty!
Shard bank robber on the loose?
Or a hint that there are too many players on shard and some have been chosen to scarper?
