address book improvement suggestion

Post by dreamstalker »

how about making the process of adding people to address books along the same lines as pm's and such and just be able to type names in instead of having to target the player or getting an address card? kinda pain in mbohb to send something to someone that i have to go stand next to and target b4 i can send... kinda defeats the purpose dont ya think??

I like that Idea as well. Makes things a bit easier when buying things from others who may not play at the same time you do. Good suggestion. The only other thing I think that would make this system more useful is the ability to buy a post box and secure it at your house (Much like the exex boxes) to deliver packages.

The system in of its self is great because you can see who sent you the item(s) which I have used for events I have run before.

I second The suggestion. Though I do't know how high on the priority list it would go.

In theory I like the idea. However, you need the initial permission so random people don't just start filling up your bank with junk items.

Create new character - add them - send them 125 oil rags - delete character.
Makes more work for us to track.

I wouldn't mind so much if a player had a post box that was tied to their account, and the address book was tied to that.

You can purchase inboxes off of the Token Stone. Secure it anywhere in your house and anyone can put something inside it and only the box owner can look inside and take things out.

If you are thinking of a box that you mail items out of, yes, that may come in quite handy ^_^

yea but you see ... With the In boxes it does not Track who put the items in there. Where as the Postage thing does ...

And +R .. the fact that there is a postage cost would help to detract form players sending things or filling someones box intentionally ... And I thought there was a delay in deleting a character . Yet another positive to not needing more than one character IMHO. But If the above features were added I am sure a Admin Field could be added to display who the master account belongs to with the package.

Another workaround would be to still keep the permission thing but have the list a search list and then prompt the person without them having to be right in front of you to do it.

Regardless... I like how the system labels the packages on who they are from ... When it comes to running player events It allows me to track who is sending what in for collection type events. (Something the Drop boxes just do not do)

As far as the actual box. Not sure if the system has a finite number of boxes that are linked to it or if they can be duplicated as a purchasable Item.

perhaps one way to prevent "JUNK" mail (big lol) would be to add in like a accept or reject gump... if u know so and so is sendin u this u click accept and it goes in ur bank/mailbox,,,,, reject it and it fills up the senders bank heheh that would be a deterrent wouldnt it?? anyways just an idea to kick around as i know i would use mail a lot more if somethin was done to make it more user friendly

I think if the books allow you to type in the name of a player, then we just make it so the player white lists you the same way on their end. If both parties don't whitelist one another then packages can't be sent. If you remove someone who already has you, then future packages will fail to send. It's not something that I think would be updated any time soon, since it's an overhaul of the post system, and there's nothing preventing it from working just fine right now. Eventually, though, I think it'd be an okay update so long as the recipient has an easy way to remove sending permissions from other players any time.

I think the mail system is perfect the way it is, Also you do not need permission, all you need is an address card. I leave my address card locked down on my front step for public use, so anyone can send me stuff at anytime, without me being there. Can lock em down anywhere, Have a vendor on MZ? put your address card on display. Lock it down in your shop, house, etc. Although I wouldn't mind being able send packages out from my house without having to go to Brit, or even if there where a few more post boxes scattered around the different towns. I really do think the main ONLY problem with the mail system is No one knows about it!!!!! Spread the word!! Ad it to the Town crier!! Tell your friends, family, enemies, and dog. Let it be known, and tell people to give out/leave their address cards where they can be found. Only you can prevent forest fires.

Definitely not many people use it.

Postman Ed, which John Dee has placed in Makato Zento even has a book set out where you can use it for free. Just have to get the person you want to mail to in the same area as you the first time... or they need to create a card, like Miranda said.

I think John Dee even put a book on Postman Ed that has a listing of where you can find the post boxes!

I'm mulling over a quest to add to Mistvale that'll let new players earn an address book, and I'll add a post box there. If nothing else, it will get the newbies curious and aware of the postal system. That, coupled with a wiki update for it will solve a fair chunk of the problems with folks not knowing we have a post system at all.
