Public Service Announcement - Loot Stealing

Post by moonsongtx »

I've been quiet on this thought it's been going on a while but today really irked me. If you see someone fighting a large group of mobs and once killed they don't leave the group of dead bodies, please don't step in and start looting. Chances are, that is what they are doing. I'm getting tired of going into the Elf quest, killing things, and then having to find more to kill simply because someone else looted the quest items. Yes, I know that after a period of time those bodies are open to everyone. Yes, I know it's not against the rules (because once again... those corpses are open for everyone)... but it's a really tacky move. If you can't kill the things needed for the quest on your own, maybe you shouldn't be doing that quest? I wont call names out. Just know that next time, I might not be so quiet in game.

Hi there,

If what you reporting is true, i understand that you are mad. But i think that nobody can loot the body of a mob you just killed for some time. And not all the mobs in there have a quest item. Maybe you were unlucky to get lots of mobs without the quest item.

Page a gm and ask the question is the best way to understand what is going on there

Hope everything will straitenend and if you see me in the area just ask and i'll gladly help you: )

Because of the way I was killing them, the first ones were lootable by the time I finished killing. (Round them up and momentum strike them all down). Yes, it was somewhat my fault for not looting as I went, but when there are over 10 mobs chasing you in a circle, looting isn't first on the mind (surviving is *LOL*). As for lots of mobs without quest item... sure that's possible.... but when I open them up and see no loot at all in them, while I see two people standing among the corpses, I think it's safe to assume what happened. I'm not angry. Just a bit annoyed. (Takes a LOT to make me angry. :) )

I'm just going to say, its not some other persons fault if You don't loot as you go. Many people here use UOSteam and when they walk over corpses, it will auto loot them, Maybe you should invest in something like that? I find this post slightly offensive, you are blaming other people for your mistakes and calling it "loot stealing."

First off, its three minutes before the corpse you killed goes from blue to other players to grey and lootable by anyone. so if you have not looted it by then. there is no excuse, nor should you be complaining.

Second, at that point it's not "loot stealing" its finders keepers, you snooze you lose, Dont like it? Find another way to do things, don't put a post of forums yelling at "EVERYONE" when really its a select few.

You Neve are in the wrong on this topic. I don't mean to be mean or rude but facts are facts, I would suggest running a looting script through steam or Easy UO if you are unable to loot as you go quickly with the clicky drag method.

I wish you well and safe travels.

I disagree with you 100%. A person shouldn't have to alter the way they play to make someone else happy. If they choose not to use an auto-looter, so be it. They killed the monster, its their loot, unless you ASK THEM and they tell you that you can have it. It IS loot stealing, because you didn't kill the monster.

While I do understand your viewpoint, if they are running for their life, trying to stay alive and need extra time to loot, it's still their kill, their loot.

Finder's keepers only applies if they looted it, and then dropped said loot on the ground for anyone to be able to pick up, or have otherwise left the area and the bodies in their wake. If they are running around, fighting other monsters, you shouldn't just walk in and "auto-loot" it because you can.

It's called playing nice. Stop being greedy, and kill your own monsters to loot.

Think of it this way, no one is on screen, what do you do? Ignore free loot? Stand around and wait for someone to come back? You know how many times someone has looted or claimed something I've killed, I don't go off whining cuz I took too long to get my loot, I move on and find another.

The greed is always there with ANY player, Gold and items, ESPECIALLY on this server is greed based. Either way, ones opinion is ones opinion.

Good luck.

They weren't off the screen, they were in the process of looting it sounds like to me.
I've accidentally looted someone's stuff before as well, or claimed a body as my script worked.
I apologize and move on. I don't stand there and intentionally loot their stuff though, which is
what this post is making it sound like.

Sounds like they were all over the place...... So maybe it was hard to tell what was going on, maybe She should have spoken up and said, "excuse me that is my loot" and not put the entire server on blast as if she has never done it because I can guarantee you she has. Maybe without thinking about it, not realizing it, maybe just flat out intentionally.

EVERYONE has.

By the time they started looting, I had finally killed my last guy and was going through looting. I was standing there looting but it is impossible to tell what I had killed first. I was on screen and not only that but they had both run past while I was killing them so they KNEW I had just killed them.

Like I said.... not against the shard rules and yes, you can claim "finders keepers"... but I just found it extremely tacky. And if it had only been me it was done to, that would be one thing. But I've seen it happen to others as well.

Intentionally looting a corpse that someone else has killed is pathetic. Blaming them for it is repugnant.

You mean someone altering their play in the sense of not looting an open corpse, solely because it may be wanted by another player? I ran through Halloween killing vamps when i didn't need the blood, i didn't loot it but no one else should either then right?

If I run past a corpse I can loot with items I need, I'm taking it without looking back unless someone specifically mentions it being theirs.

'running for their life' or trying to kill too many monsters at once, you could interpret trying to handle such a large spawn alone as greed in itself, especially if you are incapable of looting them as you're too busy being overwhelmed.

Also, if any of you were to run past a netopir corpse with gold and wings on it, like faff you would run off going 'oh man, that guy needs to loot his corpse'.

"[c Hi guys, I just ran past netopir's body with wings on it, Can i please have your permission to loot it?" ...

lols.

I don't know how it is on OSI, but really only the player who killed mob or his party should be able to loot/claim corpses. Because it is no-pk server. On pk server player who lost loot would just pk thief 80% of times. Loot-stealing is obviously a worse crime than kill stealing.

Once again guys.... the looters saw that I was killing them. (They ran past several times and even stood still for a few seconds while I was killing). As for gathering up a bunch just to claim them.... have you seen the way mobs spawn in the elf quest? *LOL* I didn't run around to gather them... I ran around so that I wasn't ganged up on, knocked off my horse, and killed in 2 seconds...

Once I finish up the part of the quest where I need to loot certain items, I don't even loot my kills after that. But I leave them for any that need them (as in I walk away). All I'm asking is for people to actually be courteous. If I'm at fault for doing so.... so be it. :) We'll just agree to disagree.

Well put, its exactly the thing I was touching on. If you cannot handle the mods you are killing and you take such a long time that the blue corpse goes to grey, it is fair game. You are being greedy thinking you can round everything up and claim it for yourself. The one who points the finger first is usually the one in fault.
