Creating Character Issue

Hello, I'm new and wanted to start playing on Excelsior, so i've downloaded the patched client from the website.
All was going fine until I selected my starting town as an advanced character, and it got stuck on the "Creating character" message... I've tried to make a mage then, and the same thing happened...
The client is at ver. 5.0.9.1 (fresh install)...

I encountered this issue as well. In my case it was because I was trying to use a name already taken on the shard. Hope this helps.
