Need Input - Walking Dead Event

Post by +Nyx »

I'm going to open the walking dead event next week, and in the meantime I only have a handful of hours I can dedicate to updating it. It's not an event that usually gets many people running it constantly throughout the month the way the regular seasonal do, and I can't really do much about it this year. But, a player mentioned they'd like to see a daily quest involved with the event, that would give a small reward. I don't have enough time to make this have a nice randomized reward pool (like regular seasonals do), but I could easily add a daily quest for some gold (this would be super easy for me and could definitely go in), or possibly a handful of deco item possibilities based on which daily quest you were given (this is a bit more complicated, but probably doable as long as I keep the number of options small). Another possibility is that the daily quest could reward you with items that are beneficial for running the event. Gear, bandages, etc. This would be the mid-level option in terms of time and complexity to add.

So, what would motivate you to spend more time in this event? A daily quest for gold? A daily quest for event bonuses? A daily quest for deco items? And if deco items, what would you like?

Basically....

On a individual level, i think the event bonuses would be a nice addition to keep running the quest. I also don't think it would bring in a lot of buzz on a more broad scale for participation. It seems deco is always a hit when it comes to rewards (even though i don't deco much i find it a nice gold return). So, on the terms of what kind of deco, that i couldn't be too much assistance with. Probably fairly simple items but personalized with character names? I seem to like those the most, but Jussomdood looks good on most items(lol). Thanks for all the hard work +Nyx and asking for feedback from the community, which can be beneficial or become quite a headache. Either way I'm sure there's going to be loads of information flowing in.

Having run it multiple years now I can say it's low on my totem pole of things to do...I would really like to see a purpose to it (aside from kill as many as possible). Daily quest, esp. with a small group of deco rewards, would definitely get me (and a lot of people I know) more involved with it. :D

In event bandages definitely. Or perhaps a temporarily defensible psotion if a group gets together to "work it".

Heya! Some input from me .... :D I Realllyyyyy liked the types of rewards given out by the treasure trolls from hunting event. Would it be possible for small deco rewards to be mineral/fossil type items say a blood diamond or a preserved skull ...... anything similar <3 just a thought..

I'd like to see NPC's spawn at random in various houses or areas across the event area that give you special quests, such as killing a certain number, clearing an area, finding a specific item in a crate, or even a quick escort quest. They could give rewards that help you like special weapons, buff items that last longer than randomly spawned ones, or even deco that you could keep after you leave the quest area.

I was thinking that we need more weapon types. Anything can be used as a weapon. No parking signs, trash can lids, a long piece of rebar, etc. These items could have very low durability or have a set number of kills on them before they poof. Possibly have a walker skill that you can raise by killing them. The longer you are in the event, the better you get at killing them but you also lose the defense bonus because of your confidence. How about a group event where everyone goes in as a group and clears an area of town or the woods or even the entire event area. Could be a last day or week thing to help clean the shard. Or even a Team event. How many walkers can Blue team kill in 30 minutes.
Walker skill would reset each year and raise very slowly. Thoughts?

A little late for this years event, but I wanted to throw in my two cents aswell.

I'm faily new to the shard, so my first time doing the event, and i got a little bored after killing around 400 walkers, because there's nothing more to do and i couldn't see a point where it helps me develop my character further or get a hold on some interesting things afterwards.

The main point i would suggest, even if suggested before, is implementing some quests or storyline in the event, something like for example "rescue a NPC who has himself shut in in a building by killing all walkers inside", "find the teddybear of another NPCs child (by killing the walker/ diving in their old house/just search every crate you find)", "locate the remains/walker/NPC of the husband from another NPC", "provide a group of NPCs with food and/or weapons" and so on....

As for the rewards, deco things like e.g. a blabbering walker head, a arm/hand of a walker that grabs bypassing characters (like spiderwebs), the guts of a walker to decorate a floor or just a weapon to show off (like e.g. a Baseballbat named Lucille) come to mind.
Gold is always welcome :P
Also like Slymenstrah stated, items that would let you survive a little longer or kill a little easier could be a thing, those could decay after some time and/or disappear upon leaving the event area.

[Glyph]s ideas are also worth mentioning:

Also it would be nice to have an overall goal, like in the winter event where's those sweet jewel, even though maybe not that powerfull.

All in all, I realy like the idea behind this event, but think there could be something more to it apart from killing walkers

Oh, and a big thank you for your work so far!
I don't know what I'm doing, but I know how to do it
