I would advise you to do the quest that makes you a friend of the hive. If you do this then you the solens will not attack you unless you are aggressive to them. The ant lions will still attack you. You do not have to be a friend of the hive to complete this quest it is just easier.

Also it is advisable to familiarize yourself with the maps that are available on the stratics web site.

To complete the quest you have to study 4 nest sites in the hive. When you enter a nest area you character will make a distinctive noise and there is normally a solen queen present. After that it is just a case of waiting for a message saying the study is complete. After studying 4 areas it is possible to return and collect your reward. You will receive a pink or magenta colored seed. However there is a 5th secret area that you can study. To get to it you must plant a green thorn in a sandy area. (Green thorns are a resource gained from growing bright green snake plants.) Studying the 5th area will get you a rare fire seed for your efforts.
