I have checked wiki and looked through the forums but still doesn't understand what is a tamer. from my understanding is i train animal taming to GM and tame some kind of pet and have it fight for me?
what type of pets should i tame and what other skills do i need to farm with tamer? does it work on dragons/drakes?
I just started the server today and gone through the forums to learn as much as I can but still confused on how to make gold. I am currently in newbiew dungeon doing the rat quests and level up my swordsmanship and some combat skills.

Hello there!
U can think of a tamer as a character who has raised his animal taming skill which allow him to tame different kind of animals/monsters(drakes, dragons and many more). U can use the pets to fight for u, to carry ur stuff, or to ride them if possible, or just to have them. Animal taming usually goes with animal lore skill. In fact when u try to tame animal and have both(taming and lore) skills unlocked(arrow up), u level them both. Also good skill to have if u want to have pets to fight for u is veterinary. This skill will allow u to heal and even resurrect ur pets(u can resurrect only bonded pets). Music / Peace will help u taming aggressive tamable creatures.
Here we have something called pet breeding. This way u can pick chicken and breed them(lots of times) until u raise their stats to max(u can raise pet stats with ointments, but that is expensive). A maxed out chicken can easy fight and kill even dragon. Breeding pets ins not cheap so for u is better to buy one cheap leveled pet and use it. If u insist on taming the pets urself good start are frenzied ostards (Required Taming: 77.1) - ridable, good dmg (pack instinct), but they have low hp and resists as fresh ones. On 98.7 u can tame hiryus - ridable, good dmg, HP, resists. If u raise ur taming up to 101.1 u can go for cu sidhes(note here u will need at least 105 animal taming PS used) - ridable, good dmg, HP, resists and also have a backpack where u can store some loot. Without any taming PS used drakes, dragons, unicorns, nightmares are good choices too. Also as a new player(and even later on) avoid fighting lots of enemies with ur pets.
Getting gold as a new player is not rly hard. Doing the rat quest and probably selling the organics to players directly or [exex(type [exex in game to see what i mean), or doing escort quests every 5 mins will get u enough gold to get some starting gear. Voting for the shard on the sites will help u too. Also take ur time to explore what the public player vendors can offer u - Town Center, Makoto Zento and those listed under World Teleporter / Shops. All items in here have prices that vary in time or from player to player who sell them. So u don't want to pay 100k for something u could get for 10k on different vendor for example.
Gathering and selling resources can be profitable for a new player also. If u enjoy crafting stuff u can even do only that and get a lot gold this way, but this way gathering resources is a must and will take some time before u gather the good BOD's which can reward u with high value items.
If u like to fight monsters - there are a lot of places u can do that even without training ur skills on trainer beforehand and make gold. But u must have some way to heal urself(bandages, spells, etc).
When ur acc become 21(up to 180 if i'm not worng) days old in here u can do the Mistvale quests and get better gear from there.
And the Ultima Online world is for u to explore and enjoy. Cheers!
