Im so lost.

Post by Thomasmgp »

I played UO prior to 2000/2001 befoee I quit and most recently I started playing on on a T2A server. I wanna try out a more modern publish server since I quit after Tram/Fel split ruined original UO. Been following the guides on Wiki but so much info to digest at once. Will just list my most urgent needs first.

1) UOAM doesnt work for me even after following the setup guide.
2) Heard Taming was good here so anyone got a few pieces of jewelry i could borrow so I can craft dyes?
3) What are all these crazy stats on weapons. Im used to ruin, might, force, etc. Are they randomly added if I craft stuff or can you choose only the good ones.
4) Whats my progression like for farming gold? I heen doing the Rat quest but at this rate I will never be able to afford a Mule Army like the newbie guide said I needed to buy and use for pets.

I wanna explore all the UO I missed but I feel very overwhelmed with no idea where to go.

As a beta OSI player. The Tram Fel split didn't ruin the game, the intro of too many rares that made all crafting and vendors useless and the addition of the imbibing gargoyles stuff to try to offset this didn't work.
I also played T2A for awhile did well but got bored and not enough players hung around long.
From what you said though about not liking the Tram Fel split I don't understand why you came here, a split non PVP shard.
If that is no longer an issue to you, this is a great shard and many here will help you in-game as you play.

1) http://uoex.net/wiki/UO_Auto_Map
Try running it as admin, or maybe getting a newer version. I use it, so I know it works when set up properly.

2) As a GM, I can't really loan you jewelry, sorry!

3) I think UO got rid of those old-style weapons in Second Age. I can't quite remember. The stats here are added with runic kits, or on looted weapons. We also have re-layers, which basically means you take a weapon, level it up, spend points, and then turn it into armor. They pretty much allow you to become god-like compared to what normal UO allowed.

4) The rat quest is great gold, if you sell all the organics you get from it.

This is an extremely customized server, and changing regularly. While you will find some things that are old school, a lot has been updated, or changed. I would start with the wiki as a guide, knowing that not all the information is 100% correct. It's mostly player written, and doesn't always get updated with new changes.

The very best way to make gold is to find something other people dislike doing, but are willing to pay for.

Welcome to Excelsior, and best of luck to you.

1) uoa is fickle...try as admin...or use UO Steam which has a built in map of sorts
2) be sure to check out the newbie donation room...can probably find some taming jewelry there easily...also be sure to look for animals...i dump them in there all the time. IMO taming is not as essential on this shard as others once you get into relayers
3) they got rid of those long ago, here we have weapons that you can level and assign points to as you wish. you can buy the weapon level deed in...trinsic i think from the vendor stone by the bank...or if not there go in the white gate next to the bank to get to the place you can buy them. Please note: Do A LOT of research on what is and isn't a good levelable weapon...don't want to waste the time and effort getting something that's only so-so
4) definitely sell the organics and do escorts...quick and easy money. Also stuff in the newbie areas sells *very* well (as long as it's not age restricted). Can't give you exacts because i've never been there but there are a few items of clothing that are highly sought after.

Welcome to the shard!

That is a perfectly understandable response so I shall tell you why. At the time of the split I was heavy into PKing. That was all I did at that point. PK people and loot houses. The split ruined that for me and thus the game was no longer fun because I couldnt enjoy those things that made it fun for me. Now I just wanna relax, PvM, and get rich without having to worry about a gang of reds showing up. I guess as I got older I just wanted a relaxing environment to just chill without worrying about Anti-PKs killing my in my own house then having to rez with stat loss.

If you have a ton of skills to train up, you may actually be better off with razor for a while, it has a built in auto map that works with minimal setup. It is very versatile for skill training, once you are ready to actually do some more major fighting and have 220+ Dex, then it is time to advance to something that will serve you better than razor.'

As for gold, you may find it useful to train up tinkering to make tools and work on farming ore and eventually granite. Might not make you rich, but you can get a few hundred thousand gold.

Have you checked out type [exex
It is essentially an in-game auction hall of sorts, you have to use a deposit box to load gold/items to sell. It is a great way to stack tools when you are first starting out, how about a 60,000 use shovel?

Champion spawns are a good way to make decent gold, have to be a little careful as the later rounds can be a little dangerous if you are too new. Quite a few guilds are open to new players, so check around.

This server is so customized it is like learning the game over from scratch. If you are using Mage spells to heal... rethink that... Try bandages... (cut cloth into bandages) (can sheer sheep and turn wool into cloth if you want as well)

A huge game changer is a huge bag of holding... didn't know how useful it would be until I first got mine a long time ago... it really will make you rethink how you play the game... how about being able to carry over 1 million gold or a stack of 60,000 arrows or bandages. It will hold up to 40 items at -0- weight and they are treated like they are blessed while in there...

OK starting to get the hang of this shard. Figured out how to use Exex so have some starting gold. Macroing wrestling in training room with it casting Chivalry and Bushido spells in a loop. Proly gonna make a Macer that uses Whirlwind unless that isnt gonna cut it. Also are Mules really that powerful where I need my taming? Can I farm just fine without them? Also Im not familiar with all these new zones so are there still places left to place houses?

Welcome to the shard. There are plenty of places to place a house, you just have to look around. And you might want to start with a small on to begin with. Mules are really good for starting out. Once you get one, the rest follow fairly quickly. Make sure to raise you Animal Lore and vet skill to control and heal them. Lore is a very easy macro and will raise to 100 in a few hours. As for a macer, just plan to raise all combat skills to 120 the buy essences to get them all to 130 ( Don't forget that you can raise all skills to max on one char here). There are some very nasty critters here and archery can be your best friend in some instances. I agree with doing the escorts, they are easy money every 5 minutes and no danger involved. You can leave your char unattended in the training room over night to work stats up at about 1 per 15 minutes. You will also gain anatomy and tactics in the training room (but max gain is 75 in here), you will need to find someone with a personal trainer to get to 100. Read and reread the wiki. And be sure to ask around in world chat (type [c) most of the shard is helpful and will help after a sarcastic of funny to us comment :lool: . There are also Cleric spells which help with healing type "I pray to the gods" and are based on your spirit speak skill. Ask questions and read the wiki. and for goodness sake Have Fun....

still in need of + taming items so I can start making Dyes. Searched the donation jewelry chest as well as items for sale and found nothing. Although I guess I could just use my +60 thingie so I dont have to wait around for + taming items to come up for sale.

I would hold off using your " +60 thingie" until you learn a little more. It seems like a smart move at first but later you might regret it. There are some skills that are an actual PAIN to raise. Be patient young Jedi.......

Yes, please listen to Glyph and save that +60 skill ball for something that is crazy to raise (lockpicking and poisoning come to mind!). You can *very* easily 120 Taming here just by crafting...took me a few hours.

Also in regards to housing...look around...there are TONS of spaces for 18x18s...maybe even a keep if you're lucky.
Castle spots of course are a bit difficult to find, but not absolutely impossible...just have to look around carefully and keep tabs on things. One thing to note, GM's can actually help you place a house on terrain that you normally can't...it's in the player services---housing portion of the wiki or codex. It costs tokens but it's worth it if you've got a pesky rock in the way....also down the road they can combine houses so you can get huge plots of land going on...not that i know anything about that...or owning 1/2 of luna *innocent whistle*.

Finally read the 220 dex guide to get a good idea of what to shoot for...with 220 dex you instantly heal via bandages. :D

another thing of note...

You can vote on the top sites once a day (24 hours cooldown...) and you get eventually 1ed, ED is server currency worth roughly 50k gold each. It will take a few weeks to work your way up the reward tree. Voting takes like 1-2 minutes tops...

Razor is still what I use for everything just because i know exactly how to use it and how to write scripts with it. For you, once you have enough skill/gear to stay alive you can gather bones in doom (golds not bad) and sell the gold sculls (50k a pop) and once you have your mule pack going to gauntlet will help you save for a bag of holding. once you get that upgrade to nobles and do the same thing. Jackels collar, (you can use to get to 220 dex), Bone crusher (used for a relayer) and Spirit of totum (used for relayer) can fetch you a pretty penny (1m, 9m and 6M) or you can use them. If im ever on PM me and we can go together or maybe work on the goc quest...

FYI, archery, Swordsmanship, tactics, anatomy, musicianship, discord, chivalry, taming, animal lore, healing and magic should your top skills to max.
discording a target, casting enemy of one, concentrate weapon, putting your pets on it standing back and spamming armor pierce with your yumie and using "touch of life to heal your pet is the Excelsior way of life....you should also get a halaber that you can use wirl wind with.

PM me if you see me on... I'm more then happy to walk ppl around and show them stuff...and you get to keep the gold from the trip... lol

People generally go for nobles after mules. They deal a lot more dmg than mules do as they have pack instinct, which ramps up their dmg by 100% when 5 are all attacking the same target. They don't have natural poison immunity, but they move very quickly, they also don't have a pack on them, but I used my nobles for a long time and you can take on more difficult stuff with them as long as you keep them healed.

After that people generally progress to imprisoned pets, which are often referred to as Imps. These are pricey as they have no stat loss on death, meaning you can take on very hard content as you can send them in and not worry about them being killed by bosses that would 1 shot most if not all players. You can't breed these though, so you will need a whole bunch of ointments to raise their stats, which is also very expensive. Again, they have pack instinct and a full set of imps hit very hard. You can take on a lot of content solo with a pack of Imps. Word of warning though, if they go wild due to hunger they will disappear completely and be lost, even if they are bonded, so never let them go hungry!

I don't really know much about Bio pets, but people use them too, I think they are even more expensive to build, but can have huge amounts of HP for tanking things and you can equip them through the paperdoll with items as you would yourself.
