UOEX's Real-Life Crafters

Post by +Nyx »

I'm a pretty crafty type of person in "real life", and I think we've probably got lots of others on the shard who are too. Let's all show some of our best/most fun projects :)

Homemade marshmallow fondant, formed into sea creatures for cupcake toppers for my cousin's birthday last year:

My first attempt at embroidery, a gift for my BFF's birthday:

The wedding gift I gave my little brother and his wife - a pair of giant boxes filled with smaller boxes of pre-paid, pre-packaged dates, enough for 2 dates per month for their first year of marriage; along with a note explaining that the best relationship/marriage advice I'd ever received had come when I was 16 years old, from my great uncle who has been happily married for nearly 50 years now. The advice was "Always keep dating".

And the blanket I made for my sister in law's baby shower:

So, fellow crafters, let's see what you've been up to :)

I come from a crafting family, but sadly I am not a crafter, my Brother and Father are the artists. While I have nothing of mine to post, I would love to show you some of the work of my Bro and Dad.

I tend to have too many hobbies and vocations.. I blame adhd.. but I definitely craft in real life.. design and build guitars, from raw wood to instrument. I am pretty sick with shell inlay

a guitar I built for a metalhead, was really saddened when he wanted it to be black the wood is really heavily figured.

this is a guitar I made for myself one of the few i have vowed never to sell its for me, and I love it

a really detailed inlay I did on a fretboard

a close up of the abstract moon phases inlays from the black guitar

the inlay stuff is my favorite thing to do, its all done with a jewelry saw and a 000 blade (very very tiny easy to snap) its very meditative to cut all the pieces and route the recesses into whatever I am inlaying. takes a long time due to shell & the blades being brittle and essentially cutting with a mini coping saw.

thanks.. took a few tries do that, getting a smooth arc with what amounts to a tiny coping saw is slow going tedius work.

Flower bed I build for my mother's neighbor.

Adirondack style bench I made as a wedding gift to my best friend. They had their guests sign it instead of a guestbook. Obviously I used yew wood, freshly chopped.

An aerial view of a 20,000 sq foot house I helped build.

A ceiling detail that was fun to build.

I have always been envious of folks who were talented with woodworking. The bench is gorgeous!

I have a Polymer Clay business online where I sell things like jewelry, Christmas ornaments, or just table top pieces. These are some of my favorites:
