Fall Harvest Quest

Post by +Nyx »

I've finally managed to finish the fall harvest quest and it's now available :)

To begin the quest, seek out Liam the farmer in his home, east from Skara Brae island. He needs assistance with various tasks on his family's farms.

There are 52 possible rewards for this quest, and the rewards are on display in the Archer's guild building to the northwest of Liam's home.

Important Info:
- Say "hail" to Liam to begin the quest.
- Players with the [young] tag cannot participate in this quest, however that is the only age restriction.
- You MUST be patched for this quest!
- Declan has a 30 second delay for his cinematic. Once you've begun speaking to him, do not move until you've completed your objective. Mobbing up multiple players on this NPC will likely cause even worse hangups than usual, so if there are other players in the building working on this quest step, take turns approaching him.
- All of the items you'll need to collect for book book 2 are available on the mobs in the harvest area, as well as on the ground surrounding the fields and also in empty buildings all over the farm.
- Items you must harvest will need to be obtained via the stealing skill.
- This is a very low-combat quest and should therefore be quite young-player friendly. Just in case, there is a res station in the harvest area, at the crossroads where you enter.
- Most of this quest is based on the NPCs automatically moving you around. Once you've approached and triggered an NPC (Indicated by their greeting you by name), stand still until everything is finished. Otherwise, you could become temporarily stuck.
- All books have a 2 day decay. You must complete your books before this time.
- The maze changes every 7 hours. It could feasibly happen while you are inside the maze, but it is unlikely. Each iteration of the maze has at least 2 ways to get through it.
- If you need to leave any of the quest areas before completing them, you can simply recall out. To re-enter, return to Liam.
- You can check the delay timer on your quest. Go into Liam's home, and stand next to the clock in his bedroom. Then, say 'delay'. It will display the time until your quest can be repeated. Format is Hours:minutes:seconds:milliseconds.

Rules:
- Play nicely. Take turns, help one another out, don't kill steal or in any way be a nuisance. If any player is being a significant problem in the quest areas, they will have their access to the quest revoked.
- The farm area has been carefully blocked-in to prevent players from exiting the event space. Please do not attempt to get past the barriers. If you somehow accidentally get past them, please stand still and send a page explaining how/what happened. Players found wandering around outside of the event space will be exploiting, and quest privileges will be revoked.
- Any attempts to exploit the event (whether by circumventing the one per account system, performing the quest steps afk, etc) will result in revocation of access to the quest and possibly jail.
- If you are jailed for any reason, resulting in 10+ jail tasks or an event ban, your access to this quest will be revoked.

This quest will be open until December 2nd. You can complete it once every 8 hours.

I'll be keeping an eye on it for the first couple days, and may make adjustments as needed. I'll also update this post with any further information as needed.

Enjoy, shardlings!

amazing job on the quest, I like that it involved some new mechanics (the drinking/escort) that was a nice touch..

definitely it does make me miss the old questbook collection. the stealing skill delays are irritating especially with 200 of them for the harvest section, and the ones from the clothes/straw/wood part. It definitely would have flowed alot nicer with the old questbook collection system. but then you'd have the old problem of players 'taking items' and arguments griefing etc..

love it, great deco rewards I have a feeling I will be having to put up with stealing skill delays till december 2nd due to my wife's need for 1 of everything.

It's an almost completely non-combat quest and the monsters you do have to kill are so weak as to be a non-issue even for new players. Hence, the higher number of items required and the stealing skill usage. It isn't meant for anyone to zip through a quest like this in 20 minutes and then receive the kind of rewards I've made available for this. As always, there has to be time and work put into it. It never matters what sorta quest steps I utilize for a quest, whenever it takes actual effort and time, some folks aren't happy with it and want it to be a different, easier way. Tough luck. :)

well to be clear

1. I love the quest
2. I wasn't asking it to be easier
3. its very difficult for me to be a fan of 38 minutes of skill cooldowns, that's not your fault in the slightest just the way the game works

Anyways there were some amazing elements to this that I absolutely adored. the maze is quite a piece of brilliance, from a patience standpoint I assume you had some sort of xml script to generate the iterations otherwise WOW.. thats alot of corn placement. even if it was xml that slick as heck random/pseudorandom maze action.

the conversation/drinking with declan was really quite brilliant as well not that uo is ever going to suck you in to the degree of dragon age skyrim or mass effect, but it was nice story element.

and well the deco choices I don't have to tell you pheobe is in full on "pokemon" collect them all mode. Like the new elements for sure

Is it just me or does the maze change every so often.

I found that the stealing cooldown wasn't so bad... I used the time to put the item into the quest book, and take a drink/bite of dinner. *LOL* Then again I also watch TV while playing so time often goes by quicker. :D

If you stand immediately in front of the Ankh in the farm zone, take 2 steps to the east, then head south. Just as you come level with the tree there's a square that ethereal creatures can't enter.

Just one. (Or at east 1 so far)

I don't think it's where you're teleported in, but actually if you head due south from where you get ported in I think you hit the square I'm talking about.

I think I screwed up on the fall harvest quest. I had extra dry straw/hay in my back pack and used it as deco in my home. I'm not sure if this was an exploit, but "Liam" (the quest starting point)won't acknowledge me. Have I been banned from the quest?

I am starting to wonder if this is not really a 'Halloween' quest and +N is just awaiting the right time to scare the Behoozitz out of us all: think about it...

Sent into Fel and have to walk someone back while you and he are drunk...SUSPECT!
Sent into a CORN maze of all things (Children of the Corn ring a bell for anyone?!) while still drunk...SUSPECT!

As my character stumbles her way through the maze, I am constantly on the look out for one of the "children" to come tearing through the maze and get me...or even a grinder to appear and mow me down! :worried: (Halloween Dungeon flashbacks).

I wonder...I just wonder.... :woot:

Thanks for the quest, +N and any others that worked on it: it's nice to not have to kill, kill, kill. :dance
