@Baxster Oh you are so hilarious! lol Anyway on a serious note, I have actually had someone say that I should change my name. It wasn't in UO or the name I have now. I had "Hunter" as a last name on my character in GW 2. The guy said I shouldn't have anything close to the name of my character's class. (I was a ranger in the game.) I told him thanks for his opinion and kept my name the same.

@GreenBar No one forced you to read Parsec's comment. So your example makes no sense.

@Nyx Give me a break! I am not hurt at all over your opinions from my housing change post, but while expressing those opinions there are ways to be more nice about it. Just because he wasn't cussed out or told to leave doesn't mean that he wasn't treated in a negative way. I am not referring to you specifically. This message is to everyone that replied. If you are going to give constructive criticism then you should be able to take it. Also it should never be considered a "nothing" post to ask for better treatment of people. Please tell me what's wrong with wanting everyone to be happy and feel good? (I know it's not reality to think that it's possible for everyone to feel good, but I want to do my part to try for that.)

@Wil Thank you for being on Parsec's side! Though that was addressed at me and not at Parsec. rotfl

There was a condescensing tone in a lot of the replies. I didn't see how Parsec was insulting at all by suggesting change. He was trying to help in his own way. He was actually given kudos in chat by Yoda for grasping the economy on the shard so quickly. He must have said something that was right. This may have been why he felt that he should post his thoughts here.

You guys ban together because you have been playing the shard together for years. I'm not asking that you shouldn't be against his ideas or not give him feedback on that. I am asking that you make people feel more welcome expressing an opinion on the forum especially if it's for change on the shard. Please believe me that I am NOT saying that you should agree with everyone's opinions or the changes they suggest. Just be less harsh when speaking against what other's suggest.

And just to let you guys know, Parsec read everyone's messages and then logged off and he hasn't been back since. This was someone that has been on the shard almost constantly the past week since he logged in for the first time. Before he logged off he had replied to me and let me know that he felt chewed up. I really hope I am wrong here, but I don't think he is coming back. So I guess you guys can feel good about this if this was the result you were looking for.

You perceive that he was treated badly, because a couple of people made sarcastic remarks. That doesn't mean that he was wronged, or that any of the rest of us are wrong in how we perceived his post. He posted his unsolicited input (and in such a way that was read by the entire staff and the majority of the players who read it as offensive/arrogant), other people posted theirs. I'm actually a bit impressed by how mildly everyone replied early on (way to go, kids!) - I expected to be reading World War 3 in replies when I read the original post.

One player's opinion does not a fact make. Also Yoda is one of the most sarcastic people on the shard. It's entirely possible he was having a bit of a go with that remark.

He did not tell you felt chewed up. He said his post was not well received, and said that the admin (me) "plucked" his post apart (which I did, because I was giving him a well-thought-out reply). That is basically all he said. You are putting words in his mouth in order to further your argument.

This was also someone who raged in wc about how he should get a free recovery of his pets which he left in his house for over 10 hours and which went wild from being unattended and unfed, because "none" of his "other" shards had "ever needed to feed pets". A few days later, we then have this post show up on the forums.

tl;dr version: Don't just bandwagon in favor of the newb because it makes you feel good. Not all input is helpful, useful, or good. Posting unsolicited advice 5 days after joining a new community with fake news to back it up is never, ever a good idea and sarcastic replies are to be expected if one opts to do this. Thread locked.
